Nerve Healing is Time-Sensitive

Nerve Healing is Time-Sensitive

Surgery should occur within 6–12 months of injury for best results.

If left untreated, nerve signals may never reach target muscles again. Early intervention maximizes the chance of nerve regrowth and avoids irreversible muscle atrophy. Don’t wait—delayed treatment can limit what’s possible.

What Causes Brachial Plexus Injuries?

Most adult brachial plexus injuries are caused by high-energy trauma—often motorcycle or car accidents that stretch or tear the nerves in the neck and shoulder. The mechanism typically involves forceful separation of the head and shoulder, leading to partial or complete disruption of the nerve roots.

Other causes include falls, athletic injuries, stab or gunshot wounds, radiation treatment to the chest or neck, and traction injuries during surgery. Even prolonged compression or positioning under anesthesia can contribute to plexus damage. In each case, the severity and pattern of nerve disruption guide treatment decisions.

Your Path to Recovery

Consultation & Evaluation

01
Meet with a brachial plexus surgery specialist for a comprehensive review of your injury history, symptoms, and imaging. We’ll assess whether surgical repair can restore movement and sensation based on your specific pattern of nerve damage.

Personalized Surgical Plan

02

If you're a candidate, we’ll build a surgical plan tailored to your needs. Every decision is guided by timing, injury severity, and recovery goals.

Outpatient or Short-Stay Procedure

03

Most procedures are outpatient or require only a brief stay, minimizing disruption while maximizing outcomes.

Recovery & Rehabilitation Support

04
Following surgery, you’ll begin a guided rehabilitation program focused on nerve healing, muscle reactivation, and restoring safe, functional movement. We provide long-term follow-up to track progress and support your return to daily life.

Frequently Asked Questions

How soon should I get evaluated?
Ideally, within 6–12 months post-injury. Early evaluation improves surgical outcomes and limits long-term damage.
What if my injury happened over a year ago?
We still evaluate chronic injuries. Some procedures may still restore function, even years later.
Do you perform revision surgery?
Yes. We routinely treat patients who have had previous surgeries elsewhere with limited success.
Can nerve surgery help with pain relief?
Yes, especially in cases of nerve entrapment or scarring. Pain reduction is a key outcome for many patients.
Is the surgery outpatient?
Many procedures are outpatient or require only a short stay, depending on complexity and recovery needs.
